    Japanese Cedar 'Sekkan-sugi' Overview

    Cryptomeria japonica 'Sekkan-sugi' is an evergreen cultivar from the Cupressaceae family. Commonly known by the name Japanese Cedar 'Sekkan-sugi', amongst others. This plant is typically grown for the attractive variegated foliage. It forms a small tree with a conical shape, measuring up to 10m in height. The branches are partially pendulous, producing closely packed leaves reduced to small, pointed, surprisingly soft, needle-like shapes. The leaves are coloured cream-yellow as they grow, darkening to green with age. The foliage may also develop yellow tints to the leaves in winter. This cultivar has earnt a Royal Horticultural Society Award of Garden Merit.
