Meadow Saffron Overview

Colchicum luteum is the only yellow Colchicum species. Its clusters of small, vivid, goblet-shaped flowers appear in early spring. Known also as Naked Lady or Meadow Saffron - amongst other common names - it is a lot smaller than the large garden hybrids of Colchicum. A low maintenance plant, Colchicum luteum is suitable for many garden situations including mixed borders, containers, gravel and rock gardens. Grown outdoors, it prefers fertile, moist, well-drained soil and needs a sunny spot. It will also grow well in a bulb frame or under glass in a cool position, with good air circulation. Never allow to become waterlogged.
