Cestrum parqui is a sun-loving deciduous to semi evergreen shrub species in the nightshade family, Solanaceae. It has a bushy habit and originates from Chile. Leaves are lance-shaped and they can grow to 12cm in length. In summer and autumn it produces tubular, scented, yellow flowers which smell strongest at night. These then develop into oval brown berry fruits, green when unripe. This species has won a Royal Horticultural Society Award of Garden Merit in the UK, however in many other locations with more favourable climates, such as South Africa, this species is considered highly invasive.
