Red Valerian Overview

Centranthus ruber or red valerian is a woody-based perennial species in the honeysuckle family, Caprifoliaceae. It is sometimes grown as a biennial plant for its attractive and slightly scented pink or white flowers. These form from late spring through to autumn and they are arranged in dense clusters. Foliage is grey-green in colour and pointed oval to lance-shaped. This species is part of the Royal Horticultural Society “Plants for Pollinators” initiative to showcase plants which support pollinator populations by providing ample amounts of nectar and/ or pollen. A great choice for encouraging pollinating insect wildlife into your garden!
