Buddleja alternifolia is a large and vigorous, deciduous, shrub also known by the name Alternate-Leaved Butterfly Bush. This stunning plant can be trained into a tree shape, its narrow, dark green-grey leaves carried on arching branches. It is often grown as a standard or specimen plant. Its showy, lilac-purple, 4-petalled flowers are produced in dense clusters on long panicles, on the previous year's growth - in late spring and early summer - and they are strongly and sweetly scented - perfect for attracting pollinating wildlife! Buddleja alternifolia is hardy and tolerant of most garden conditions, preferring a sunny position and moist, well-drained soil. It has earnt a Royal Horticultural Society Award of Garden Merit.
