Winter Windflower Overview
Anemone blanda is also known by the names Winter Windflower and Sapphire Anemone after its attractive flower appearance. This rhizomatous perennial lies in the Ranunculaceae family of buttercups. Typically grows to around 15cm high, producing attractive divided foliage with 3 toothed and lobed edges. Flowers coloured blue, purple, pink or white are borne in spring on stems above 3 small leaves in a whorl. The flowers are around 3-4cm wide and there are numerous narrow petals. This bushy species is deciduous and thus loses its green foliage in the autumn and regrows new leaves in the spring.
