Mahonia

Mahonia Overview

Mahonia was a genus containing around 45 species of evergreen shrubs or small trees in the Berberidaceae family native to the Himalayas and Eastern Asia, and North and Central America. Several species are cultivated as garden ornamentals for their attractive leathery, pinnate, sometimes spiny leaves and clustered spikes of tiny usually yellow flowers often followed by blue-black berries. Many plants once known as Mahonia have recently been reclassified and are now included in the genus Berberis. These plants are often still bred and sold separately.
