Griselinia Overview

Small genus with around 7 evergreen trees and shrubs commonly grown for their leathery, shiny foliage. Distributed in South America and New Zealand, this genus is considered a classic example of Antarctic flora and is thought to have evolved with other vascular plants on the supercontinent Gondwana before the land masses separated into our current continents. Hence why these are found in vastly distant areas of the world today. Flowers are small, discrete and yellow-green coloured. Species from this genus are frequently used as hedging plants and cultivars with attractive variegated foliage are particularly popular for use in gardens.
