Avocado 'Avozilla' Overview
Persea americana 'Avozilla' is a large avocado tree that produces 'Avozillas' - monster fruits with superb eating quality. They're thought to weigh an average of 1.2 kg, and the fruits are approximately four times the size of regular avocados! It is a natural hybrid of the West Indian and Guatemalan avocado trees that is commercially grown in South Africa for export. The fruit tastes similar to regular-sized avocados, but are slightly softer to spread. Due to it being a newly developed cultivar, there are no trees available yet in retail nurseries. When it came to markets in 2013, much of the produce came from just four trees grown by one of the world's biggest suppliers of avocados. Now, it is slowly becoming more popular.
