Ballota Overview
Genus of around 30 hardy, clumping evergreen or deciduous and perennial subshrubs from temperate climates. Originating from locations in the Mediterranean such as South Africa, Central Asia and Northern Europe, this genus is adapted to rocky wasteland and can tolerate drought well. They are commonly grown for their delicate purple or white flowers and soft, velvety foliage and some species are cultivated for groundcover.
