Pteris is a genus containing around 300 species of fern in the Pteridaceae family native to the tropics and subtropics worldwide. Members of this genus are evergreen, semi-evergreen or deciduous with pinnate fronds. They are commonly cultivated as houseplants and go by the common name Brake or Brake Fern. One species, P. vittata, has been found to hyperaccumulate arsenic from contaminated soils and could be used in bioremediation clean-up projects.
