Asiatic poppy Overview

A genus of 45 species of annuals, or biennial and perennial plants that can be either herbaceous or evergreen in the Papaveraceae family native to the Himalayas. They have rosettes of hairy leaves and usually blue poppy-like bowl-shaped flowers on tall stems. They prefer a moist, acid soil in a sheltered cool and shady position. The Welsh poppy previously known as Meconopsis cambrica is now referred to as Papaver cambrica and has been placed in a different genus.
