Spotted Orchid Overview

Dactylorhiza is a genus of around 115 hardy tuberous plants with thick underground storage organs for holding water. Common names include the marsh orchid and spotted orchid. Foliage is often speckled and leaves produced higher on the stem tend to be smaller than those produced lower down. Plants may reach heights of 70-90cm and their inflorescence is small compared to the total plant height, producing 25-50 flowers. These are mainly white, with spotted petals in a variety of shades of pink, purple and red.
