Anise Overview

Myrrhis is a small genus containing just 1 species of aromatic flowering herbaceous perennial plant from the Apiaceae family. It is native to mountainous regions of Central and Southern Europe. Myrrhis plants have become naturalised in many other habitats, on cultivated land, disturbed ground and in a range of countryside environments. Commonly known as Sweet Cicely, they have fern-like foliage and umbels of small white flowers followed by seeds with a characteristic aniseed scent. They are happiest in dappled shade.
