Rock samphire Overview
A woody-based, succulent perennial. A maritime herb to 60cm. Native to Europe. Mid green leaves are slender and round. Umbels of flowers are small and yellowish in colour. This plant can be found in rocky coastal areas. This plant is often found in the wild in Northern Europe. STEM: Angled upwards, solid, fleshy, woody at base. ROOT: Woody stock. HAIRS: Absent STIPULES: Absent LEAF-STALK: Short with broad base sheathing stem. BRACTS: Many, spear-shaped, below head and flower-stalks. FLOWER STALK: About equaling flower SEPALS: 5, minute PETALS: 5, heart-shaped. STAMENS: 5 STIGMA: 2, slender. OVARY: 1, below petals, 2-celled. SEEDS: 1 per half, not released.
