Aeonium 'Zwartkop' Overview
Aeonium 'Zwartkop' is an evergreen perennial cultivar in the Crassulaceae family. This succulent plant produces attractive leaves arranged in rosettes, it has an open habit and the leaves range in colour from green in the centre to purple-black with good sunlight. Flowers are star-like, coloured yellow, these are arranged on large panicle structures and they appear in the spring. Panicles are branched stems, whereby each individual flower has its own stalk, many grass species have flowers like this. Flowers nearer the base are older, new flowers are produced from the growing tip at the top. This cultivar has earnt a Royal Horticultural Society Award of Garden Merit. This tender cultivar can grow to around 1.5m tall and wide, place in full sun for optimal growth. Soil should ideally be well-draining.
