A small genus of hardy, bulbous perennial species endemic to Crete, Cyprus and Turkey in the Mediterranean. They are prized as ornamental garden species for the blue, white or pink flowers they produce. They are commonly known as glory-of-the-snow due to their growth habit of appearing following snow melts in mountainous regions.
