Gloxinia Overview

Sinningia speciosa is commonly known as Gloxinia, it has been reclassified and is no longer considered part of that genus, however the name has stuck. This tuberous perennial resides in the Gesneriaceae family, it produces large, velvety, blooms and this plant is commonly grown as a houseplant for both the flowers and foliage. Care for this plant is similar to that of African Violets, however this plant needs more light and tends to go dormant over the winter. During dormancy, the tuber should be kept in cool, dry conditions until it resprouts in the spring.
