Figwort Overview
Around 200 species comprise this genus of herbaceous perennials and subshrubs in the figwort family. They are native to Asia with some found in parts of Europe and North America. They are characterised by their square stems and large leaves in pairs topped by clusters of small flowers. There are several cultivars available, bred often for variegated foliage, and these garden varieties are happiest in a boggy area in partial shade.
