This tender, erect, epiphytic shrub has winged stems bearing leathery, glossy, boldly veined, dark green leaves which can get to 30cm long. In spring into summer it produces, dense, pendent panicles of star-shaped, pink or coral flowers with large, leaf-like, pink basal bracts up to 2.5cm across.
Generally not harvested.

This plant is a very architectural plant and suits being grown in containers to help create a sub tropical look in conservatories or indoor locations.
Can be attacked by red spider mite, mealy bugs and scale insects.
