Jicama Overview

Pachyrhizus erosus is a perennial climber from the Fabaceae family. It can be found growing naturally from Mexico to Central America. It produces blue or white, pea-like flowers which lead onto elongated seedpods. Commonly known by the names Yam Bean, Jicama, Mexican Yam Bean, or Mexican Turnip, amongst others. The roots are edible, however other parts of the plant are toxic and should not be consumed. Often grown as an annual for the roots, sow seed in spring, ready to harvest in the autumn.
