Pigface Overview

Carpobrotus is a genus containing around 14 accepted species of spreading, perennial succulents with triangle-shaped, fleshy leaves and daisy-like flowers, often pink or yellow. This genus is commonly referred to as sour figs or ice plants, and most found only in South Africa. There are a few Australian species and one originates from South America. The genus name means 'edible fruit' referring to the edible fruit. This plant may sometimes be referred to as "Hottentot", an offensive term that was historically used to refer to the Khoikhoi, a member of a group of indigenous peoples of South Africa and Namibia. We do not support the usage of such a term.
