Water Lily Overview
Nymphaea is a genus of submerged aquatic perennial plants in the water lily family, Nymphaeaceae family. These plants have a cosmopolitan distribution. They are commonly known as Water Lily or Waterlily. Foliage is the classic heart-shaped, floating lilypad leaves and these plants produce showy bowl- or cup-shaped flowers in a variety of colours and forms held above the water on sturdy stems. They have been extensively cultivated as ornamental pond plants not only to look decorative but also to provide shade to prevent overgrowth of algae and shelter for aquatic animals. These are deciduous, summer-flowering, perennial and water plants. The depth of water must be between 30cm and 1.5m. There grown for their floating usually rounded leaves and brightly coloured flowers.
