Sierra laurel Overview

This genus of around 9 accepted species of deciduous or evergreen shrubs are in the Ericaceae (heather) family and are native to the Americas, Asia and Madagascar. They have simple oval or lanceolate leathery leaves and small sprays of white or pink urn-shaped flowers. Some species are cultivated as garden shrubs and there are a number of cultivars available. All require and acid soil in a shady site.
