Adiantum is a large genus of around 200–250 species of evergreen, semi-evergreen and deciduous species, commonly referred to as maidenhair ferns. These mostly hail from tropical and subtropical regions, so require a minimum temperature of 15ºC and grow best in shaded positions. They are found in moist areas at the side of streams, in crevices, and woodland margins. Some species prefer deep forest shade. They are grown for their elegant, attractive foliage which ranges from green shades to pink in the correct conditions.
