Fern Arum, Aroid Palm, Zanzibar Gem, Zuzu Plant, Eternity Plant, Emerald Palm
Zamioculcas zamiifolia is the only species in the genus Zamioculcas. This plant has a short, thick rhizome with succulent leaf-stalks that bear leaflets. These may be shed during periods of prolonged drought. It is widely grown as a houseplant due to its attractive, shiny, dark green leaves, its tolerance of low light levels, and for its air-purifying qualities. Small, non-showy flowers coloured yellow-brown appear from mid-summer to early autumn, later developing into white berry-like fruits.
Generally not harvested.
Using single leaflets.
Divide as new growth begins in spring.
Don't panic if you forget to water it. This hardy plant can survive a short drought.
