Moonlight Cactus Overview
Selenicereus is a genus of around 25 species of fast-growing perennial cacti in the Cactaceae family. Historically this genus was known as Hylocereus, it has been reclassified and species once included within it have been renamed and moved to the genus Selenicereus. These plants are native to Central America and the Caribbean, growing with erect, slender, climbing or prostrate jointed stems and aerial roots. The most commonly cultivated is S. undatus, known as dragon fruit or night blooming cactus, grown for its edible fruits and for the scented nocturnal white and green flowers that last only one night.
