The genus Aralia contains around 73 species of deciduous or evergreen trees, shrubs and herbaceous perennials. Aralia plants are from Asia and the Americas and thrive in mountainous woodland habitats. Species in this genus differ greatly in size and structure, with some herbaceous species less than 50cm tall, compared to trees that can reach over 20m. They are commonly grown for their bold, bipinnate leaves and can produce many small white-green flowers.
