A genus containing tropical and subtropical evergreen perennial shrubs and small tree species from the Americas. There are roughly 170 species included in this genus, characterised by their bipinnate leaves and fluffy, red-pink, pom pom flowers formed from up to 100, 1-4cm long stamens. After its flowers, this genus is commonly called powder puff plant and blooms occur all year, but are most impressive in spring-summer.
