    Grazing Rye Overview

Lolium perenne is a herbaceous grass that is grown for silage or as a cover crop. It is included in many pasture seed mixes and is also grown as ornamental grass and in sports courts for its wear resistance and regrowth abilities. Native to Asia, Europe and Northern Africa, it has been cultivated and naturalised around the world to help stabilise soils and prevent erosion. However, in fertile soils it can out compete rarer grasses and has spread to waste areas alongside. It can sometimes be mistaken for Lolium multiflorum (Italian Ryegrass) and Elymus repens (Couch grass)
