Cylindropuntia Overview

The genus Cylindropuntia contains around 41 perennial cacti species with cylindrical stems. These plants are from the Cactaceae family and they are commonly referred to as Chollas. Originating from Northern Mexico and Southwestern USA, this genus has characteristic barbed spines with papery sheaths, that hook onto clothing, skin and fur. This genus is adapted to dry climates and contains plants which are popularly grown as houseplants.
