Cynoglossum contains roughly 83 hardy annual, biennial and perennial species typically grown due to their long flowering period which runs from late spring to early autumn. They produce mainly small blue flowers, but some purple and reddish colours are also present. Species in this genus are commonly found in a wide range of environments and some species are considered problematic weeds in introduced locations due to their spreading ability and sticky burs. The species Cynoglossum amabile was a wildflower from Southwest China, known as Chinese Forget-me-not, this species is now commonly found across Europe and North America.
