Quamash Overview
Camassia is a genus containing roughly 6 species of hardy, bulbous, perennial plants from the Asparagaceae family. They are adapted to moist meadow environments and can spread to cover large areas, growing to between 30-130cm. Cultivation has resulted in the naturalisation of this genus to gardens, where it grows best in well-draining humus-rich soil and should be planted in autumn for optimal results. They produce multiple 6-petalled flowers from a single stem, which range in colour from white and pale pink to dark purple-blue colours.
