Overview

Matteuccia is a genus of 2 species of rhizomatous, deciduous ferns native to parts of the Northern Hemisphere where they are found in temperate zones along riverbanks and on sandbars. These plants produce upright rosettes of bright green finely-divided fronds that resemble ostrich plumes, hence the common name Ostrich Fern. Also known as Shuttlecock Ferns, they are popular as garden ornamentals where they thrive in cool, moist or even wet, shady sites.
