Apple 'Court Pendu Plat' Overview

Malus domestica is a hardy, deciduous woody perennial tree that grows in cold temperate zones. also known by the common names Bramley apple or apple, this plant grows best where there is cold in winter, moderate summer temperatures, and medium to high humidity. It is moderately fast growing, but growth slows with age. Apple trees can live for 100 years or more. Apple trees bloom in the spring, set fruit, and take from 100 to 200 days to reach harvest depending upon the variety. An apple a day is said to keep the doctor away! This variety of dessert apple originated in Europe. It was first described in about 1613 but is believed to be much older than this. It was also called 'Wise Apple' because it flowers late and escapes spring frost damage. Fruits have a firm, fine textured, juicy flesh which is sweet with a pleasant, slightly aromatic flavour. Greenish yellow flushed orange/red. Rich and fruit flavour with a strong pineapple-like acidity which mellows to become sweet.
