Blue Hens and Chicks Overview
Echeveria secunda was previously known as Echeveria glauca. This plant is an evergreen, succulent perennial from the Crassulaceae family. Also known by the names Blue Hens and Chicks, Blue Echeveria and Glaucous Echeveria. This succulent forms attractive rosettes of blue-green, arrowhead-shaped leaves. These can reach 20cm in diameter and this plant tends to grow in clusters, producing offsets. Flowers are bi-coloured, pink and yellow at the tips, they are urn-shaped and produced on tall stems above the leaf rosettes. Blue Hens and Chicks are frost-tender plants, keep them above freezing temperatures, place in a position of full sun and well-draining soil for optimal growth. Water when the soil has thoroughly dried out for best results.
