This genus is also known as devil’s trumpets, it consists of around 9 species of evening flowering herbaceous annual and perennial plants. Their origin is uncertain due to extensive cultivation and this genus has been naturalised in many temperate and tropical locations worldwide, such as the USA and Africa. All species in this genus are poisonous and they can grow up to 2m. Many more species in this genus have been described than actually exist because species vary greatly in general size, leaf size and flower appearance dependent on the environment they are growing in.
