Grape Hyacinth Overview
Muscari is a genus of 43 accepted species of bulbous, perennial plants in the Asparagaceae family. They are cultivated for their early spring flowers and these plants easily and rapidly naturalise in the garden where they are usually grown under trees, in rockeries, planted in lawns or containers. They are native to the woodlands and meadows of Eurasia and North Africa and widely naturalised elsewhere. Foliage grows in clumps of strap-like leaves and this genus bears small flowers, usually blue-purple, sometimes white, particularly in cultivated varieties. These are bell-shaped and arranged in dense, conical racemes. In the United States, these plants are sometimes commonly known as Bluebells.
