Forbes' Squill Overview
Scilla forbesii .is also known by the name Forbes' Squill, it is a deciduous, bulbous perennial plant in the Asparagaceae family. Originating from Turkey, it typically grows to a height of around 15cm, producing pairs of narrow, strap-shaped leaves from the base, the leaves are around 10-15cm long. Flowers appear with the foliage in spring, they are starry and blue in colour, measuring approximately 1.5cm in diameter, with 6 petals that fade to white down the centres. Usually, 2-3 blooms are produced per plant and these flowers are held on loose raceme structures, the flowers are bowl-shaped and they face upwards. It has a tufted habit and is hardy to -20 degrees Celsius, plant in a position of full sun to partial shade, in well-draining soil for optimal growth.
