This single-stemmed palm species in the Arecaeae family produces dark green foliage measuring around 1.5 m in length, divided pinnately into slim fronds. Star-shaped flowers are borne in winter, and arranged in hanging spikes. These lead onto small oval fruits. It is rare for this species to flower when grown under glass.
