A large genus of widely distributed evergreen conifers in the Podocarpaceae family. They can be shrubs or trees, generally dioecious, and most have spirally-arranged needles and, where male and female specimens are grown together, oval, fleshy fruits. They are popular in cultivation with many varieties available grown either as screening or hedging plants or for their neat, compact shrubby habit and foliage with good Autumn colour.
