Begonia Iron Cross Overview
Begonia masoniana is a popular evergreen perennial from the Begoniaceae family. It prefers partial shade and grows happily in pots and containers, making it an ideal plant to include in indoor planting schemes and grow as a houseplant. Its large, oval leaves have a rough-texture and patterned with a stunning cross-shaped chocolate brown centres and it is commonly known as Begonia Iron Cross or Iron Cross Begonia. It grows upright and it has bright green bristly, hairy leaves. It can grow to a height of 45-60cm. In summer this Begonia can also produce white, pink-flushed flowers held above the leaves of erect thin stems. They prefer slightly acid, rather than alkaline, soil and appreciate regular watering during the growing season, but they don't like to be too wet in winter. This species has earnt the RHS Award for Garden Merit.
