Variegated Spanish Dagger Overview

Yucca gloriosa 'Variegata' is an attractive variegated evergreen shrub cultivar from the Asparagaceae family. It forms a single stem with leathery, firm lance-shaped, green leaves edged with creamy-yellow. Flowers are coloured creamy white, they are bell-shaped and appear from late summer to autumn. Commonly known by the names Variegated Spanish Dagger and Variegated Adam's Needle after the attractive foliage, this cultivar has earned a Royal Horticultural Society Award of Garden Merit. It is occasionally listed by its synonym name of Yucca gloriosa 'Aureovariegata' Preferring south or east-facing spots in full sun with well-drained soil, its striking sword-shaped foliage adds a touch of exotic architectural interest to mixed flower beds and borders as well as urban courtyard spaces, patios, containers and conservatories. Not needing regular pruning, spent flower spikes and damaged leaves can be removed in spring. If being grown in a pot water regularly during the summer, allowing the soil to dry out between waterings.
