Lonicera is a genus of around 100 accepted species of evergreen or deciduous hardy, twining climbers and shrubs in the Caprifoliaceae family native to parts of Asia, Europe and North America with a centre of diversity in China. They have often fragrant tubular flowers followed by red or black berries. In cultivation they are usually grown as climbing plants or wall shrubs for their ability to rapidly clothe unsightly outbuildings. A few shrubby varieties are grown for hedging.
