Tagetes is a genus containing around 47 annual and herbaceous perennial species originating from North and South America, with a centre of diversity in Mexico. They produce showy, daisy-like flowers in summer and autumn. Cultivated widely for their attractive, pinnately divided, aromatic leaves and showy flowers, they come in a variety of hot colours and patterns. Many are commonly known by the name Marigold. They are also frequently used in companion planting to deter pests from food crops, as well as growing well in containers, they are also long-lasting as cut flowers.
