Winter or spring flowering, deciduous, tuberous perennial that typically flowers at a height of between 10-20cm. It produces upswept white or pink, scented flowers that are borne on tall, slender stems. Its leaves are an attractive, heart-shape with silver markings above and a purplish-green below.
