Grappenhall Heys Walled Garden
Cafe or restaurant
Grappenhall Heys Walled Garden has survived two world wars and the threat of a housing development, but luckily for us, a group of locals stepped in to save it.
Thanks to the Grappenhall Heys Walled Garden Conservation Group, the woodlands, ponds and ornamental pleasure gardens now offer a foliage-framed glimpse into what life was like on this country estate back when it was first created in 1830. Grappenhall is really two gardens in one: one created to supply the kitchen and one designed for scenic strolling. For a glance of the Good Life, follow your belly to the kitchen garden where organically grown butternut squash, potatoes, apples and plums sit ripening at any one time. Or get your camera ready and head beyond the manicured Yew Hedge, where curving pathways and open lawns are fringed by herbaceous borders in hues of pinks, yellows and electric greens. The two gardens also share the site with eight enviably spacious Victorian glasshouses, a number of outbuildings, and three wildlife ponds. A family-run café keeps visitors fed and watered.
UPDATED OPENING TIMES Please note that the Walled Garden (but not café )will be open as follows: Monday: Closed Tuesday – Thursday: Garden open from 1pm - 4pm Friday – Sunday: Garden open from 10am - 4pm
