This Akebia is a fast-growing semi-evergreen climber with a twining habit. It produces clusters of pale flowers with a light purple centre in the spring.
Usually produces an abundance of flowers which are very highly scented (has a slightly different scent to the more well-known Akebia quinata which is commonly called the chocolate vine).
Suitable for south or west-facing wall or fence and can get to a height of 4.5Metres if left unpruned. After flowering non-edible fruits are often produced.
It needs well-drained but moist soil and needs to be reasonably well-watered when initially planted into the ground. May also be pot grown with well-drained compost.
Best potted up gradually.
Available in a 3Litre pot.
