Fallopia baldschuanica is a deciduous climber, so it will lose all its leaves in autumn, then fresh new foliage appears again each spring.
This plant is extremely fast-growing, in a range of conditions and locations, it can easily become a problem. Whilst often grown as an ornamental, it can become invasive, with stems easily reaching 10m in length. Take care where this is planted as it really spreads.
Russian Vine can be a useful plant for covering unsightly garden structures and scrambling through trees, but be warned - it will smother everything that gets in its way!
Position: full sun or partial shade. Soil: any poor to moderately fertile, moist but well-drained soil.
