St John’s wort is a herbaceous perennial plant
Great for wildlife garden
Organically grown using peat free compost.
The flowering tops can be made into a macerate using cold pressed organic sunflower or olive oil, producing a red oil. This macerate is rich in flavonoids and has antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties and could be used topically on wounds, including those with nerve damage, and other general nerve damage. The oil should always be offered to your animal prior to topical application when using the self selection method. The flowering tops can also be used to make a hydrosol which can again be applied to wounds and may have some mood uplifting properties, as well as digestive system support.
When the leaves are held to the light translucent dots are visible. The flowers attract a range of pollinators and is loved by bees. You may even attract St John's wort beetles.
If consumed in considerable amounts by light coloured animals in particular, they may develop skin damage in sunlight, this is known as Photosensitisation.
It may also interact with some medication.
Supplied in biodegradable bag ready for planting.
